Gestational Diabetes
I thought seen as it is diabetes awareness week I would blog about it.
It is a very common condition and rates are on the increase: between 5-10% of women develop the condition in pregnancy. It usually occurs around the 24th to 28th week of pregnancy.
We know from research that women that are diagnosed with gestational diabetes are much more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later in their live.
The really good news is that if you know you are susceptible to type 2 diabetes you can do heaps to prevent it later in life!!

Gestational diabetes mellitus (sometimes referred to as GDM) is a form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. It is diagnosed when higher than normal blood glucose levels first appear during pregnancy.
All women are tested for gestational diabetes as part of the 24-28 week routine examination with their GP.
Breastfeeding is one of the important things you can do to help you and your baby if you have gestational diabetes.
