The Australasian Society for Tongue and Lip Ties Conference

The Australasian Society for Tongue and Lip Ties has their conference in Melbourne next week, see the link here for the full programme.

I am speaking at one of the concurrent sessions so have busily been getting prepared.

Tongue  and lip ties

Are a very difficult and controversial issue with babies. There are so many opposing views. The main problem we have is diagnosing if it is an issue for a baby, because breastfeeding relies on the anatomy of the mother and baby fitting together. One baby may look and feel like their tongue frenulum is tight but the breastfeeding will be totally comfortable and the baby will be gaining weight well.

Conversely I have seen the exact opposite situation many many times too.

As more research is done in this area we will get more answers, we will have more reliable diagnostic tools developed to help us deal with these issues.

Whatever I learn while attending this conference I will share with you in my next post.
